August Home, Inc. ( is a fast growing tech company based in San Francisco, CA. We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern for the fall and winter of 2017. In this position your primary responsibility will be to design, test, and document August products with the August engineering team. Typical work assignments include the design and documentation of complete assemblies and fixtures for prototype and production, and develop and execute test plans to prove new August technologies and designs. Your project(s) will depend on August’s needs and your skillset. Be prepared for technically challenging problems in a fast-paced work environment, not fetching coffee. We have high expectations of every employee and our interns are no exception. RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
Design and documentation of test fixtures and components for door locks and accessories in SolidWorks
Work with August Engineers to design and test the next generation of August locks and access products
Participate in design reviews with our engineering team
Enrolled in BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Experience with SolidWorks and engineering drawings
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a team
Interest or experience designing for in-home IoT markets
Experience with dead-bolt locks, mechanical gears, and electrical connectors
Understanding of ANSI Y 14.5 drawing standards and their application
Experience with design or fabrication of sheet metal, machined parts, and castings
Experience with CNC machines and bandsaws
Familiarity with electronics
Handling and proper use of lab equipment (digital multimeter, soldering irons, etc. al.) and craftsman tools (hammer, screwdriver, etc. al.)

This paid internship is based in San Francisco, CA. Start and end dates are based on your academic calendar and August’s needs, but the internship length is expected to be at least 10 consecutive weeks.
